“Justice?” [If You Posted Here, Please Move Your Post to the Right Place] Saturday, Sep 27 2008
Uncategorized 7:34 pm
To me the meaning of justice is theconcern for genuine respect and treatment, which is to be regarded as fair and equal. In this country today justice is used freely among Americans. Its like they believe justice should just be given to them. Sometimes that’s not true, sometimes individuals must learn how to earn justice. Everything just cant be given to you, and I think some honestly think that is what justice is. Justice is just being fair among a group of different types of people under circumstances, and I think that many of us forget that today because we always want to be fair. Its hard to always want to be fair to others because someone is always going to be dissatisfied with the outcome. That’s why giving the meaning of justice can be very hard because the meaning of the word can fluctuate depending on what the person is asking justice for. In most situations it’s criminals who want justice for a crime that they have committed, in many cases justice is served to the people and to the criminal but in the end not everybody is satisfied with whatever the judge decided. Which is another reason we have court systems is to give justice to those who deserve it, rather it’s criminal justice or justice to those who feel the need to have fairness upon them. One justice cause today is homosexuals wanting the same rights as heterosexuals as to getting married and having children together, it’s hard to serve justice because everyone wants justice but is it possible for everyone to have receive justice?
New Orleans Music [If You Posted Here, Please Move Your Post To The Right Place] Friday, Sep 26 2008

New Orleans is a world apart, in many ways its own little city-state, part of the United States but at the same time so different from every other place in the United States as a country. Their history, people, architecture, food, music and traditions make New Orleans a great place, despite all the things that people may say about it. The music is incredible one thing that I love is that it’s about the music it doesn’t matter what ethnicity you represent everyone can enjoy it. It can calm you down from a long days of work or it can have you dancing at a gathering of some sort, it can talk to you or you can just listen to the melodies of the music that come through the instruments. That’s why I love New Orleans music, another thing about it is that everything about the music is so pure. All the different music times (pace of music), and different instruments playing is real its not coming from a computer of what someone thinks it sounds like its a real person playing which is also one thing that makes it that much more fun. Another thing that I discovered is that there is a radio station that plays nothing but New Orleans music 90.7FM also known as WWOZ and there is a website for it so you can listen to it if you’ve never heard the sound that comes from the jazz of New Orleans. I love jazz music which is why I love the music of New Orleans.

My whole life I never had any other choice but to go to college when I graduated from high school. So with that said I was searching for colleges and taking my ACT when I was only a sophomore in high school. Growing up in a predominately white neighborhood my entire childhood it was important to me that I attend a historicallyblack university. So I began my search down south because that’s where most of them are located. I also wanted to go far away from home and go to one that was good academically. The top three were Howard, Spellman, and Xavier. Xavier was in New Orleans and I got a little bit of money to attend here so without thought this is where I ended up. Plus they got back to me faster than any other of those that I applied to. Also I have a few family members here so if I ever wanted to get away I have somewhere that I can go without flying all the way back to Missouri. Plus I always wanted to live in New Orleans so that I could expierence all the things that go on here. Especially the way they admire their jazz music and with me playing so many instruments it’s fun to go see and learn how it was then and how it is now. Now that I’m here I like it for the most part, I cant complain. Thats why Im attending Xavier at the moment. I cant say that I’ll be here any longer than about two years because it’s not what I expected.

Why Xavier? [If You Posted Here, Please Move Your Post To The Right Place] Wednesday, Sep 10 2008

I chose to come to Xavier University of Louisiana not only is it ranked #1 in the nation for putting African Americans graduates in the medical field but to be at a historical black college. I look at other colleges and there is lots of competition with the different race, ethnic backgrounds, and beliefs. But here at Xavier University us African Americans don’t have to compete like we would at non- historical black colleges. Not to say we don’t here but its predominately us in the making. Another reason why I choose to go to Xavier is because I just don’t want to go to school and all I do is study not connect with my professors. But here you do more then study you get taught life lessons and the professors here care more then other professors at other universities. Part of that is the size of the university since it’s small here it is easy to make connections with people. Another reason why I choose to come here is that I know I will be a success here and become an asset. Even though a lot can go on I got the mindset to accomplish and get what I need to get done. Another reason I choose to come here is at my school that I attended San Pasqual Academy in California, I wanted to be different and break the trend and be the one to go out of state and make it and let my schoolmates know that it is possible. That’s why I decided to attend Xavier rather then going to a Cal State or a UC.
