Blog Post #7: My Thoughts about the 2008 Presidential Election Monday, Oct 27 2008

As the days count down towards the election, I can’t help but feel the high all this anticipation has created. With less than a week on the clock, I have been watching the presidential candidates with interest. It seems that Palin has a huge thing for trying to make her party look bad. She really is not the very brightest person within politics at the moment. She ahs caused soo much disturbance for the Obama campaign. It really has amazed me what people would say or do in order just to make someone else look bad for their fortune. I knew that this election was going to historical for many reasons. Number 1 being that Hilary Clinton decided to run for president. As much as I admire Obama, I really would have wanted to Hilary to win. She just seems to be the type of person who has a respecting appearance despite the obvious fact that she is a female. She already had a good view of what it took to become a great President. I mean after all she was married to President Clinton. Despite the fact that Hilary lost the democartic vote to Obama, i believe he is still a good candidate. He wants too bring about change an dI really belive that is what America can benefit from. A lot of people say that they are voting for him because he is African American and sure that is a reason to support him because unlike AL Sharpton and Rev. Jesse Jackson, Obama has proven himself to be a leader. I’m voting for him because he is the first African American to succeed this far into the presidential elections and because he is the new face of America. He embodies everyone’s dreams and aspirations. He is giving us hope that during his term America will prosper and excell once again. He is letting us know that our economy will thrive and we will never have to bail out again. Obama is the best candidate for president. I hope that this anticipation dies down and this election is over and done with because I already know who deserves to win…OBAMA!!!
I turned eighteen on September sixth of this year meaning that I was finally old enough to vote. I registered here a Xavier so I had to vote in New Orleans. I was told that the lines would be extremely long on election day and I have classes on that day so I knew that I would not be able to vote on Tuesday November fourth. I went to city hall on Tuesday October twenty eighth and waited in a line for three and a half hours to vote for the president of the United States for the first time in my life. I was extremely excited. It was not only important because it was my first time voting but it was also important because I was voting in a historical election. While in line, I saw a woman that appeared to be about eighty years old or older walking up to the doors of city hall with a walker. Everyone let her cut in front of them and I surly was one that was proud to let her go ahead of me. I was amazing to see her exercising her right to vote in her condition. That help me stay in the line and not say “I don’t have time for this.” I don’t know exactly how the election will turn out because I cannot see into the future. This has been an interesting year watching the two candidates on their campaign trails. I can say that I think Tuesday will be one amazing day and I can say that I played a part in it!
Going to college and pursuing a higher education is a blessing. In this new decade living with just a high school diploma is not enough to grasp a full filled life on. In this society the more educated you are the more successful you will be later in life. Not only financially stable but on a personal level. You have so much achievement you you have accomplished along the way. I think going to school right after graduation makes people more motivated to keep on until they reach their pause point. I say this because those people that take a year or two off, get a job, settle down, going back to school is harder. The learning material is not fresh in the mind. You may get attached to your loved one and not want to leave. Often that becomes a challenge. Once you start college and keep it going the years are going to go by so quick. When i look at my career as a neonatal nurse, i see me with my degree at age 23. That’s a young start but a lot to pursue. I will be stable and successful at a very young age. By that time i will not only have a devoting career but i see myself with a life that has so much to grasp. When you see most nurse they are older like in their 30′s- and so on. But for me to start off young is something that pushes me on more and more in college. The day i receive my diploma is just going to be another chapter closed and more to open.
This year is the biggest positive change America will go through. The ability to get the destruction out of office is a blessing. I mean over the years this country has had more downs then ups. We have had the war over nothing, recession and much more. As the days get closer it seems like Bush is ruining start. He seems to be putting the up coming in a hole. My views on this election is hoping for the best. I myself don’t really like politics. I just want someone who deserves it. I see this election as a popularity poll. In reality votes don’t really count its the electoral thing that elects the president. we the people just somewhat help them decide who takes office. I’m not voting because its too late and i am not a resident here. So that kind of sucks but i want Obama all the way. Not because he is black but because he seems to have a successful plan that fits and can better America rather then destruct her more then she has already gone through. As the days go down it seems like everyone knows who is going to win. But it just seems like America is just waiting for them to announce it. I myself like to watch people when they vote. Some people just be so mad and irritated when you announce the opponent to the other person and they don’t like that person. Also i like to see all the support the people put out like stickers, signs, shirts, videos and so one.
As a freshman attending a University, I believe that being apart of a presidential election is very important. Turning eighteen last year, meant more than just being able to get into clubs, and being “legally” able to stay out past midnight. It gives me the right to vote, and gave me the opportunity to make a difference. As a child, I never understood the significance of the presidential race, only that I wanted the man my parents rooted for to win presidency. Now being older, more educated, I clearly understand the reasons and background about the presidential elections. As a student, it hurts to hear people my age or even older refuse to vote. Why wouldn’t you as an individualist want to make a difference? It hurts even more when I hear people vote for a candidate just because of the color of his skin. Why not understand his values, his view points, than to only vote for him because of his race? Wasn’t it our race, our ancestors who fought for equality? Wasn’t it Martin Luther King who spoke words of equality? Its kills me when I know that people go against the main morals on racism, and choose to make decisions based on color. I remember almost as it were yesterday, my younger brother who only 6 told me,
“Jade, are you eighteen?” I replied, “Yes, Ocion why?” “Well, you better vote for Obama because he’s cool!” I remember laughing hysterically at his youth and innocence. What makes me a democrat? What separates this country from the Donkey’s and the Elephants? Why does our society have to compete and race when they should contribute both of their ideas to make a one stronger nation? Being eighteen has been great so far, I’ve decided which side of the political pole I stand, and decided which candidate I want to become president. I want our nation to wake up! Get up and vote, make a difference, change our lives!
High gass prices+high taxes+increase in mortgage foreclosures=RECESSION!
As far as the 2008 election goes, I think that with the right amount of participation, that America should see the CHANGE that we’ve been wanting over the past eight years. I’m so excited that i’ve finally reached the age where I am able to voice my political opinion by voting! I think that all young people of age to vote should do so. Unlike 4 years ago, we now have a strong democratic candidate. Many people want to say that Senator Obama’s race is the reason why so many people are running to vote, but in my opinion that’s just a bunch of crap. I think that Senator Obama is what we need. A good family oriented man who is concerned with the well being of the American people and not the up building of the Iraqui nation! For the last eight years, we’ve seen what the Republicans had to offer for the American people and that was nothing but DEBT do to a useless war that innocent soldeirs lost their lives in because we’re fighting for a country who could care less about this one! So my suggestion to everyone who is of age to vote, PLEASE GO OUT TO THE POLLS AND ELECT THE POTENTIAL PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES WHOM YOU THINK WILL BEST MEET THE UNMET NEEDS TO THIS ECONOMICALLY NEEDY NATION!
I am so psyched about this election. It is history in the making.I feel that this election means alot to everyone whether they are rich, poor, white, black, and everywhere in between. We definetly have been waiting on change after the last eight years of troubling policies and failed promises. There are key issues that the nation seems to be watching. These issues include the redistribution of wealth, economy, and the war on Iraq. We want a positive change and I tryly believe that this election will bring it. Senator Obama is truly a JFK to my generation and others. He is classy yet hip to the young, intelligent, and charismatic. I think its safe to say he is a major reason why this election is so unique and important to our nation. The first real African American to be seriously considered for the presidential chair. THIS IS MAJOR in a country that was segregated only 40 years ago. It shows America is maturing and understanding the meaning of being a nation of nations. I am so excited and feel very proud to be American. If Senator Obama loses, which I doubt, or wins I still believe that the point of what this country can do and has done will be visible to all other nations showcasing the freedom and ability that America has. Also this election has brought to the light the feelings of many citizens. Many, especially the young, feel that their vote doesn’t count. After all its based off of electoral votes. However I was so moved to see long lines streching far behind the horizon to vote. It proved citizens felt as if their votes counted. This election had the power to raise political awareness and inspire action. That is a very powerful thing. Its just mind boggling to exist in such a great moment I feel honored to be apart of this even though I am not old enough to vote. The nation is ready for a change.
I feel as though the presidential elections were VERY anticipated because EVERYONE was ready to get rid of Bush. Bush was even ready to get rid of Bush. Barack Obama and John McCain ran a great race through the election, and now that Barack Obama has officially won over the presidency then all that is left to do is sit back and watch to see if we really did make the right decision (well everyone else cause im too young to vote, so if not then it’s yall fault). The 2008 Presidential Election was awaited more than the last Saw movie. I am happy that the country is turning around from Bush, SLOWLY but surely, because anything is better than Bush, we could have a mule in office as president and I bet that mule would be a better leader. And plus Barack Obama will most likely be alive in 2012 unlike McCain so if he does do well or exceptional in office for the next four years then I will be voting for him when 2012 comes. Democratic or Republican, I am for whoever gets the “job” done, and I feel as though Barack Obama Obama Obama Obama is the one to get that job done.
Not only is this campaign a victory for the ages, but it was hard-fought and most-deserve. McCain seems like a good man, but so is Obama. I am not for or against any particular parties, I just believe in a strong leader who has the ability to make a turning point in this ever-growing crisis we’re now facing, and Obama might just be the man for that. He is a man of many promises with great intellect. Which listening to one of his speeches, his words were so eloquent it felt like i was listening to a REAL person, not a fronting politician. “… If there is a child on the south side of Chicago who can’t read, that matters to me, even if it’s not my child. If there is a senior citizen somewhere who can’t pay for her prescription and has to choose between medicine and the rent, that makes my life poorer, even if it’s not my grandmother. It’s that fundamental belief—I am my brother’s keeper. I am my sister’s keeper—that makes this country work…” I hope that when it comes down to it, talk isn’t just talk, but so much more. I guess all America can do is to just wait and hope that, change will actually come.
My personal opinion about the presidential election is speechless. This is history in the making its time for bush to pack his belongings and get out the white house. He didn’t have a plan for us by sending soldiers to fight the war in Iraq. Now we have just had the two of the strongest candidates up against each other in this pass 2008 election. History has been officially made barrack bema is president. Still cant believe it African Americans have never owned nothing not even the clothes on their backs and now to own an entire country its just amazing. I think more teenagers have voted in this election than ever. My first time ever voting makes me feel as though my voted counted toward something good. Barack has said over and over that he’s all for CHANGE which I honestly believe. But at this point its all word of mouth I hope change will take place no more wars in Iraq. This election was a close race in some states but Barack won many states the number one being California. I’m happy that Barack Obama won this election he made history I think that if Hilary were still in the race it would have been a close race between her and barrack. Both would have made history that would have meant a lot either to the female race or the African American race. But history has been made November 4, 2008 first black president of the United States Barack Obama. “Its time for change”
my views onthis year’s presidental election are not as vague as it should be. Seeing that I am from another it limited my views on America’s political system. For the longest while I was not in to politics and I am not into it as I should be but I was interested in our choice for our next presidential candidates. Seeing a Black man running for president had the a lot of excitement going in everyone’s mind. it spark an interst enevn in those who do not know anything about anything. Having a black man reaching as far as Barack Obama only tells us that no matter what we want in life we can achieve it and there is nothing that can stop us, but ourself. Seeing him rise to the occasion the way he did made me realize that all the excuses I have made in the past only placed me a couple of steps behind my lifetime goals/dreams. This Presidential election did and will change many people hearts, minds, and attitude towards about themselves and others. Experiencing this for the first time in history I can honestly say that America is in for a great change and it will help the people out. This marked the greatest thing in history because as a young person I was always taught that black people are not much and will never succeed in anything but Barack Obama showed everyone that it is possible to be what you want to be.
My views on this election represent the change i’ve seen in myself. I have always been into politics and I always decided to vote for the best candidate. I come from a family where my dad is republican and my mom democratic. I feel that you must always have balance between the two parties. republicans have been in office for too long and its time for a democrat. I saw no better choice than Obama. He represents everything this country needs. President Obama speaks eloquently and has a law degree from Harvard. He will bring a change to this country by the way he thinks. He plans to focus on those that are struggling and make our economy stable again. President Obama made history and became the first Black President of our country. My view on this past election is that it just couldn’t have gotten any better. He gives hope not only to African Americans but all Americans, democratic or republican. I feel that our country is now headed in the direction and we can return to dominance by retaining our respect around the world.
My views of the presidental election is that i am still in shock. Inside myself i knew that Barack Obama was going to win but when the news annouced that it was fact i really couldn’t believe it. I can’t believe that the United States has an African- American president. I can’t believe that the United States of Americaan has an African-American first lady. When i was watching the tv the showed the individuals who were standing outside the white house and waiting in chicago and i saw how some of the people were crying and overwhelmed and how some people were excited it just made me really excited. That is when I realized that Barack Obama stood for what hard work and determination will get you and to not be governed by your circumstances. He stood as a symbol for all races that some things people thought would never happen actually do happen. The election was a good expeerience to me. Some of the things Mccain said in his speech to basiaclly let his supports know that they had lost and that obama would now be in charge were classy but at the same time the response from the crowd was distasteful. but all in all i am awaiting the change to come.
The 2008 presidential election was a bittersweet experience for me. I remember sitting at the doctors office and picking up a Jet magazine and reading seeing an article about an amazing speech given by some Senator from Illinois. I admit I did not truly read the speech but it caught my eye that this man was black. I was caught off guard even more when I heard rumors that he planned to run for President. Given his predecessors of Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton he didn’t have much to live up to lol. But I say this election was bittersweet because even though it is extremely amazing to see our country grow and try to remedy our past mistakes to the point that an African-American man would be elected president. However, due to circumstances I wish to keep private I was prohibited from being apart of history in a sense (I could not vote). Even so, it felt good to see the smiles on everyone’s face as we celebrated Obama’s victory. It seems like forever African American people have lived with such negative stereotypes but now we have something to be proud of and exalt. I thought it was extremely honorable how Obama proclaimed in his speech following his victory that there was still work to be done; and though he may not have the support of everyone yet he would in due time. I just hope that we as a nation realize that it will take years to undo the mess that the Bush administration has bestowed upon us. But we certainly are headed in the right direction. The time for change is now.

The 2008 presidential election was the most touching and I must say an important part of my history. This was the first election that I have ever paid any attention too; it also was my first time registering to vote. I often ask my self am I just voting because the man who was running for president was black or is it that I really believe that American need change? To be honest it’s a little of both I do believe Obama is very much qualify to be our president and also it would be a great experience to see an African American in the white house. It would not only show that African American has come a long way but is also show our determination and hard work. When Obama was elected the first African American president was the great feeling I have ever felt, I was very happy to know that my vote and the other people that when out to vote has made a different. Obama being the new president t has given me a wake up call to stop sitting around wasting time and get up in life don’t matter what I may face while accomplishing my goal but the main and most important thing is finishing at the end on top. Everyday I learn something new and how I use that new knowledge determine who I am as a person at the end of the day. To our new president and to a new start good luck OBAMA
THE 2008 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION??? 2008 has been an extremely important year for people all over the world. On November 4 President-elect Barack Obama won the presedential election. He is the fisst African American president. That historical day changed my whole way of thinking. I now realize that anything is possible. He is a man of great integrity. Obama was already predidcted to win the popular votes AND HE DID.He was predicted to win the electoral votes also AND HE DID. He has been impacted my life greatly because he is now a part of history. My grandparents and all of my elders world wide were so happy that it brought tears to their eyes because they have been thru so much through out their historic lives. That change that they have been waiting on for a long time has finally come. I am proud to be an American. However, time is valuable and there is a lot of work that needs to be done to fix our economy and hopefully Obama will correct America with the help of everyone else. When he was elected it was overwhelming to not only America but to the whole ntire world. He will succeed especially with all of the encouragement, courage, and bravery this ONE MAN WITHOLDS WITHIN HIMSELF and that the society has in him.Change has finally come…..iRep Obama. -JC
The votes are in, and Barack Obama has been named President-elect of the United States. As the first African-American elected to the presidency, in the midst of wars abroad in Iraq and Afghanistan and a global economic crisis, this is no doubt an historic event for our country, and the world. I feel indifferent since I supported a 3rd party and could see the outcome of this election a mile away, but I am so happy to hear the reaction of the democratic crowd when Obama mentioned McCain. What a difference in each crowd’s reaction. Of course I realize that one lost and the other won. But, I just now hope that everyone supports our new President and gives him a chance. He has alot of cleaning up and hope people give him time because I’m sure he’ll need it to clean up these last 8 yrs. I hope that we see alot of good things in our future. I have to say, that was the best speech that McCain has ever given, I was impressed. Unfortunately, he made a really bad choice with Palin and that was a “Big” reason I didn’t go with the Republicans. I was also disappointed with the negativity coming from the McCain supporters: all the booing. I hope Obama stays safe and changes our country for the best. I hope he keeps his promises and improves our lives and our country. Good Luck to our new President Obama!
The first week of November 2008, I don’t think i’ll ever forget. The first time that I voted for the next president. So much was going wrong with the USA and the economy only seemed to be falling. From sky high gas prices to the AIG bailout what else could go wrong. From the start of the election, I was a Clinton Supporter. When she lost, I went to the undecided side to see who could make me want to vote for them. Obama vs. McCain. It seemed like a movie to meObama had people shouting YES WE CAN! and McCain had the most negative ads on tv. I listened to both of them talk, but there was something about Barack, and I could just listen to him talk on and on. While Barack was telling people of the US what he was going to do, McCain was mostly finding out what Barack did wrong in the past. Although McCain had some good points that I decided with him, so I was sort of stuck. So I decided to take an online vote to see who I agreed with the most. The poll asked random questions, and I was told to pick out of four multiple choice answers. At the end of the quiz, it repeated every question and showed me who I agreed with the most. It happened to be Mr. Obama. I guess because I’m a democrat. Well on election day, I awoke early and my sister and I voted. Later that day they announced Obama won. My mom and I jumped for joy, I was so happy. I just hope that we made the right choice. I know we did.
